Dittiscombe Estate & Cottages Details

Come and relax at Dittiscombe Estate in our beautiful, dog-friendly holiday accommodation in South Devon – one of the best dogs welcome holiday locations in England.  Our cottages each have pretty, individual gardens and are nestled amongst a private valley.  Enjoy the woodland trails and meadows on the doorstep, all managed for the enjoyment of our guests and their dogs.

Our fabulous location means we are close to the quiet beaches and pretty green lanes of the South Hams.  We provide a map of a leafy lane 50-minute walk from Dittiscombe to the historic village of Slapton. Slapton has two dog-friendly pubs and beaches of Start Bay just 2 miles away.  With loads of other coastal walks to choose from our visiting dogs can have a great holiday walking and playing on the many dog-friendly beaches in the area.  Further afield there is Dartmoor, and the towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth are all approximately 20-30 minutes by car.

Dittiscombe Estate & Cottages is nestled in the valley at the end of a private lane and provide a homely setting all year round. Our renovated stone cottages have thick stone walls, exposed beams, recessed windows, feature fireplaces, slate, wood, or ceramic flooring.  Each cottage has a TV with streaming, DVD players, and free WiFi, ceramic hob, microwave, electric oven, and fridge freezer.  Some have wood-burners.  The cottages are heated throughout.

Area Details

Kingsbridge is a market town in Devon, England.  The town is 5 miles from Salcombe; 5 miles from Bantham; 12 miles from Dartmouth; 13 miles from Totnes; and 20 miles from Plymouth.

The bustling town is located at the head of a marine estuary in the picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Kingsbridge offers a range of delightful independent shops, charming coffee shops, a 3-screen cinema, and an award-winning pub, providing plenty of options for shopping, entertainment, and dining – many of which are dog friendly.

During the summer season, visitors can enjoy estuary excursions by ferry to Salcombe, a town situated on the banks of the Kingsbridge Estuary. Salcombe is renowned for its stunning coastal views, rolling countryside, and its reputation as a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Activities such as kayaking, surfing, paddleboarding, and powerboating are popular here. Salcombe is also known for its boutique shops, a mix of high street brands and independent producers, as well as restaurants serving freshly caught seafood. Don’t miss the opportunity to try Salcombe Gin and indulge in some delicious ice cream while exploring the town.

Kingsbridge itself is an ideal base for exploring the abundant wildlife in the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which is also part of the South Devon Heritage Coast. Take a leisurely walk along Kingsbridge Quay, wander through the narrow alleys off Fore Street, or visit the Shambles in Totnes, an Elizabethan market arcade.

In the wider South Hams area, you’ll find picturesque ports like Dartmouth and Salcombe, along with sandy beaches such as Blackpool Sands near Stoke Fleming and the two sandy beaches at Thurlestone. The region is dotted with charming villages offering traditional pubs, local farm produce shops, and rows of pretty cottages. If you’re willing to venture a bit further, the waterfront city of Plymouth awaits. It boasts attractions like the National Marine Aquarium, the historic Barbican Quay, and a vibrant nightlife scene with theatres, restaurants, and bars.

With its stunning natural landscapes, attractive towns, beautiful beaches, and proximity to notable destinations like Plymouth, Kingsbridge and the South Hams area provide a delightful setting for a memorable vacation in South Devon.
