Laverock Holiday Cottages are based on a working Sheep farm near Barnard Castle, Co Durham which borders North Yorkshire, Cumbria, and is 1 hour south of Northumberland. Our 50-acre farm is situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Laverock Holiday Cottages are designed for people with dogs. As well as the chance to help out on the farm we have a fantastic purpose-built 120 foot indoor Dog Agility Arena available for all year round use! If you’ve never tried Agility book a trial lesson (£25 for 1 hour). If your dogs are trained in Agility, enjoy practicing in a clean dry arena for only £14 per hour.
We also offer sheepdog lessons for those interested. Everyone is welcome to join us when our dogs gather the sheep in for various health checks. Lambing time runs from the first week of April to the middle of May. If you have never seen a lamb being born or bottled fed lambs these weeks are very popular!
Cottage Details
Laverock Holiday Cottages were originally byres dating back to the 1700s. We have two stone cottages available that both sleep up to 5 people. Up to 4 dogs are included free of charge and further dogs are welcome for a nominal weekly charge. Surrounding the farm, which sits just over 1000 feet high, is fantastic walking country. The Yorkshire Dales are only 30 mins away and the Lake District is 1 hour.
At Laverock Holiday Cottages, we don’t just “welcome” dogs, we LOVE dogs and our cottages were converted with dogs in mind.

- Purpose built doggy wetroom with hot/cold shower, radiator, grooming table and Aelous proffesional blaster inside. Half stable doors so inquisitive little noses can peer over whilst drying off.
- Non slip easy clean Indian stone tiles
- Throws for the furniture
- No Ming vases at waggy dog tail height (we get a lot of waggy tails)
- Lovely log burning stove for owners and dogs to snooze in front of after a busy day walking round the many forests, reservoirs, and dog friendly attractions in the area.
- 6.5 feet tall Deerfenced Paddock for the escape artists to run around in.
Laverock Holiday Cottages also feature many original features including beams and stone walls. They come equipped with a full-size oven, microwave, human bath and shower, dog shower, all bedding provided. Crates are available free of charge on request. We also supply dog holiday tags. Our guest books are a wealth of information when our visitors arrive to plan their holiday. Accessed by their own private road, the cottages look out over the dog field to open moors. Fantastic views and superb sunsets are always on offer!
