Hi, I’m Gemma. Simon and I have been living at Farbrook Farm since 2000. Farbrook is a beautiful 18th century farm sitting in a quiet valley in the south west corner of the Peak District National Park on the edge of the village of Flash, the highest village in Britain.

Farbrook is a working farm where we breed excellent quality alpacas for the fine fibre industry. We decided to convert our loveliest barn to self-catering accommodation and Overbrook Barn is the result.  Overbrook Barn sleeps 8 in four double rooms.

We have young children ourselves, and yours are very welcome. None of our livestock pose any risk to humans. Both Overbrook Barn and The Farmhouse have their own gated gardens, the farm is secure, and our access road is very quiet. We also have chickens, ducks, sheep, and often pigs: a paradise for city children! We have an enthusiastic and friendly black lab so we’re very pet friendly and your well behaved pets are most welcome.

Dog Walking

Overbrook Barn is in the centre of a network of footpaths and bridleways that offer some of the best walking and riding you’ll find in the country. All of this is dog-friendly, and there’s plenty of room on the farm for off-the-lead running around. There’s a trekking centre in the village so you can enjoy all this on four legs if you prefer.

Activities

There’s a huge amount to do locally, along with great eating and drinking.

Why not get involved in some local country life: watch milking, visit farm shops and the mushroom farm, or try your hand at some alpaca husbandry? Or you could sign up for one of the Peak District’s specialist taster courses in dry stone walling, eco-building with timber and straw, or stonemasonry.

Some of England’s best loved country houses are on the doorstep. A visit to Chatsworth House and gardens, the water staircase, maze, and a picnic by the river, finishing off in the spectacular adventure playground if you’ve got children with you, makes for a truly glorious day out.

Buxton, known for its natural thermal springs, has been a popular destination since Roman times due to the constant 28 degrees centigrade temperature of its bubbling blue waters. However, it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of the Dukes of Devonshire, that Buxton transformed into the magnificent town it is today. The Palladian architecture of this era, including landmarks such as the semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens, and The Opera House, showcases the grandeur and splendor of Buxton.

Visitors can still marvel at these impressive buildings and explore the beautifully maintained gardens. The Opera House continues to host a full program of events, including festivals of music and arts, providing entertainment for visitors throughout the year.

Buxton also offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities and exploration. The rugged peaks to the north offer challenging walks and hikes for adventurous souls, while the gentle hills and dales to the south provide more relaxed countryside strolls. Scenic towns and villages, such as Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton, and Edale, are scattered throughout the region, each with its own unique charm and attractions.

While in Buxton, it is highly recommended to venture out and visit the nearby Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. These stunning properties, known for their architectural beauty and historical significance, are within easy driving distance and offer a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.

Buxton serves as an excellent base for exploring the wider Peak District. Its central location and abundance of attractions, both natural and cultural, make it an ideal starting point for discovering the beauty of the area.
