Experience a luxury self-catering cottage holiday at Burnfoot Holiday Cottages in Northumberland. Dogs are more than welcome.

With uninterrupted views of the Cheviot Hills, a wealth of wildlife on its doorstep, and the babble of two burns in the background, our self-catering holiday cottages are the perfect place for escaping the pressures of modern life. Our position near Cragside, Rothbury, Alnwick and Hadrian’s Wall, along with the likes of Bamburgh, Berwick, Craster, Holy Island and Seahouses on Northumberland’s Heritage Coast, cannot be improved on for a family holiday in Northumberland.

Located on the edge of the National Park, the holiday cottages have been created from the careful conversion of a very grandly designed 19th-century stone-built farm steading with a fascinating historical connection. Burnfoot is named because of its location at the confluence of two tributaries of the River Coquet.

It was re-discovered only recently that Burnfoot was formerly part of Cragside Estate, and it is in fact a Victorian model farm created by Lord Armstrong as a showcase for his pioneering engineering methods. Burnfoot was one of the first farms in the world to be powered by a (double vortex) water turbine.

The millpond created by Lord Armstrong to supply the turbine is just a five-minute walk from Burnfoot Holiday Cottages; it is worth visiting for the chance to see one of the resident kingfishers. The fish pass alongside the millpond, created to allow the huge numbers of spawning salmon and sea trout to climb past the sluice gates, is now Grade II Listed and has been completely restored already

There are lots of fantastic walks straight from the doorstep, and plenty of secure space on-site for dogs to stretch their legs!
