Dog Friendly Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire has strong links with nobility and has a wide range of stately homes and gardens for you to visit. Some may welcome dogs to parts of the grounds so it is always worth checking before you visit. However Northamptonshire isn’t all about Stately Homes and bustling cities. A short drive can take you to one of its beautiful Country Parks, including Barnwell Country Park, Brampton Valley Way and Brixworth Country Park. Here you can enjoy a few hours strolling through some of the wonderful countryside that Northamptonshire has to offer. For those who prefer more of an adrenaline fuelled or lively holiday? Don’t forget that within the county are Alton Towers, Silverstone Circuit, Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, Santa Pod Raceway and Gullivers Land to name but a few.
Dog Friendly Shropshire
Shropshire – did you know that Charles Darwin developed his inquisitive mind here in his home town of Shrewsbury? The Industrial Revolution started in Ironbridge (one of Shropshire’s World Heritage Sites)? The modern Olympics drew their very creation, not from Athens but, from the little market town of Much Wenlock? This hopefully will whet your appetite to just a little of what the county of Shropshire has to offer.
As you can gather, there are numerous museums and castles to visit. Much of the charm also lies in the unspoilt nature of the area and walks in beautiful countryside for you and your dog are many and varied. For a good day out walking, why not take the dog onto part of Offa’s Dyke? The good news is there’s bound to be a well placed country pub not far from the walk offering welcoming hospitality, a hearty meal and proper ale.
Dog Friendly Staffordshire
Whenever I think of Staffordshire, I think of pottery. However, Staffordshire is so much more than that! There’s the Peak District with it’s stunning scenery and great outdoor activities and adventures. A great destination for walkers, cyclists and the like. Cannock Chase is the UK’s smallest designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Great for taking it easy and enjoying the beautiful landscape, history and wildlife. If you prefer something a little more active, there is plenty of walking, cycling or pony trekking to do in the area.
Fancy some history? There is plenty to choose from, such as Lichfield with its stunning cathedral, museums and heritage attractions; Newcastle-under-Lyme has the New Vic Theatre, museum and market 6 days a week, which dates back to 1173; Stafford has an historic castle, Shugborough Estate, museums, galleries and plenty of family attractions too; Tamworth was the home of Mercian Kings, so a visit to the 900 year old castle is worth a visit. Or try a ghost hunting expedition. Finally, a trip to the World Capital of Ceramics – Stoke-on-Trent. Here there are plenty of ceramic museums, pottery factory shops and tours too.
There are idyllic villages and market towns to be discovered in Staffordshire too. Many with delightful tearooms and dog friendly pubs. Speaking of pubs, there is always a visit to Burton-on-Trent to taste beer if that takes your fancy. Are antiques your thing? Then antique hunting in Leek is a must!
Dog Friendly Worcestershire
Take your dog to Worcestershire and be spoilt by the huge choice of days out in the Worcestershire countryside. Whether you fancy a day out on the Malvern Hills, a walk through one of the Country Parks such as Kingsford Forest Park or a gentle amble on one of the numerous nature trails.
A trip on the Severn Valley Railway is a great day out for young and old alike. Of course enjoying a pint and lunch in one of Worcestershire’s dog friendly country pubs is a must! West Midland Safari Park is an enjoyable day out for the family and one of the best known tourist hot spots in the county. There are however plenty of smaller wildlife centres for those looking to see less exotic animals.
